Why do we "say grace?"

To be honest, I don't even do it. But it's going to change.

What do people often say when they say grace? We pray for God to bless the food, bless the fellowship of the people eating at the table and that the food might nourish the body.

But why did Jesus give thanks before he ate?

Because he taught us to pray "Give us this day our daily bread.."

When we give thanks before eating, it is in recognition that it is God who has provided our food, who has generously and faithfully taken care of us his children, and we should thank him in gratefulness for his faithfulness toward us and eat the food with joy.

I think that is why we should say grace. In thanksgiving!
